Comments: It's a Padron, what can I say. I expected a great smoke... I got what I expected. The Padron Anniversary 1964 is a handsome cigar to look at, with its very finely veined, blemish free, impeccably applied wrapper, though not as glossy as I like to see in a maduro, having actually a somewhat dusty appearance. Its box-pressed construction was excellent, its very firm feel however caused me to wonder what the draw would be like. Not to worry... lighting the cigar revealed a lush draw giving up ample volumes of smoke. The Padron burned utterly even, producing a medium gray ash that easily held to an inch and a half before I dropped it into an ash tray, rather than allowing it to fall to the floor of its own accord. The sweet barnyard bouquet hinted at what I would taste while moistening the cap for a clean cut. I couldn't quite put my finger on it... almost a sweet molasses. What surprised me even more was that this same sweet flavor carried into the smoke's predominate oak and spice notes as a very nice background that remained consistent throughout. I put the cigar down at an inch knowing that I had just smoked a near perfect example of the cigar maker's art. Just a note on the price listed above: I listed the TNT online price as this is part of a side-by-side review, the other cigar being only available from TNT. But, I actually purchased my Padron Anniversary 1964 Maduros at Stag Tobacconist for only a little more, $10.75 each. Thanks to Wayne, one of the guys that frequent Stag for suggesting this cigar and the side-by-side review.
History: (From Perelman's Pocket Cyclopedia of Cigars, 2006) The 1964 Anniversary series was introduced to considerable acclaim in 1994 as a salute to the 30th anniversary of the Padron Line. It offers a smooth flavor with four-year-aged tobaccos in both sun-grown and maduro wrapper shades. This is a limited-production series and all shapes are offered in boxes of 25, except for the Torpedo, offered in 20s. To insure customers of authenticity, a special band with individual numbering is attached to foil counterfeiters!

TNT Padron Anniversary Alternatives are unbanded
Comments: This is a cigar, that because of its price point, I expected little from. However, I was very pleasantly surprised! This is actually quite a good cigar. The glossy wrapper is classic maduro, finely veined (though not so as the real Padron) with a couple minor blemishes and a small lump or two, hardly worth mentioning, really. Its box-pressed construction was good, with the pinch test revealing a "just about right" feel. The TNT Padron Anniversary Alternative has a pretty typical barnyard bouquet, hinting at nothing out of the ordinary. Lighting the cigar, is the real test. This stick has an easy draw, producing large volumes of smoke, but that had a tendency to be a little hot. The burn wandered a bit but required no correction, producing a dark gray, somewhat fragile ash that would fall on its own at less than an inch. This cigar does not have the burn time of the real thing. The flavor profile of this smoke was not as consistent from beginning to end as the real Padron, but this is not a bad thing, just different. It had a very smooth start with notes of oak, espresso, and a hint of cocoa that built to a nice spicy finish. I actually found this cigar to be more of what I expected from Nicaraguan tobaccos. As for a side-by-side synopsis, If the Real Padron is the smoke you are looking for... you won't find it in this cigar. But, if a great everyday smoke for only $1.80 each is what you are looking for, this is one that can't be missed. It really is a very good cigar! Thanks to Wayne, one of the guys that frequent Stag for suggesting this cigar and the side-by-side review.
History: (From Perelman's Pocket Cyclopedia of Cigars, 2006) Not listed. From TNT Cigars web site, "We have gone to the extremes to make sure we can produce a cigar that is as close in taste, flavor and appearance to famous Padron Anniversary. We blended this cigar with the best and most aged tobaccos we could get our hands on. This by far is the best Nicaraguan bundle we have to offer."
