Comments: This cigar is rapidly becoming one of my favorites. While I have rated other cigars higher, I'm finding that the Don Lino's combination of quality, flavor, and price is hitting a sweet spot. The cigar is handsome in appearance, from the Maasi art themed band to the finely veined, glistening wrapper. Gently pinching the cigar hinted at good, consistent, construction that should yield a good draw and adequate volumes of smoke. I found what I expected, albeit with a somewhat uneven burn through the middle of the cigar requiring a corrective burn.. only one though. The Don Lino's flavor was a very satisfying leather and spice with a woody undertone, having a consistent, slow build to a smooth, hearty finish. I've smoked several of these (a better burn most of the time) now and the darn things are growing on me..
History: (From Perelman's Pocket Cyclopedia of Cigars, 2006) This blend was introduced in 2003 and then re-blended for 2004. It's full-bodied, using aged tobacco and offered in boxes of 25, except for the Kuro, in tins of four. The elegant artwork on the box is characteristic of the Maasi, the indigenous people of the African Savanna. Handmade in Nicaragua. (Perelman's lists Santiago, Dominican Republic as the place of manufacture. I believe this is incorrect.)
