Comments: This smoke was tremendously delicious... but I rated it on the low side as its construction was not up to par with other cigars in its price range. The cigar was beautiful to look at, with an oily wrapper having the appearance of stressed leather, but it was hardly as durable as it looked. The bouquet was particularly nice as well being of a very gentle, sweet, earthy nature. The cigars construction issues became apparent almost immediately upon lighting, the wrapper began to unravel at the midpoint, requiring a bit of cigar glue to keep the loose flap in check. The draw was a little tight but still relinquished decent volumes of smoke. It burned rather unevenly down to about the last two inches, requiring a number of corrective burns, producing a fragile, flaky ash. However, as I noted initially... the flavor was very good, being of a full bodied, black peppered cedar and earth. I have to note that while this smoke has had the benefit of 3 months in my well-regulated humidor, I do not believe the quality issues to be a storage problem. But, I have only smoked one of these, I will surely purchase more with the hope that the construction issue was a fluke. We shall see...
History: (From Perelman's Pocket Cyclopedia of Cigars, 2006) General Cigar introduced its new blend for Bolivar in mid-2005 as the most powerful in their entire lineup. Full-bodied, it features a San Augustin Ligero wrapper and filler leaves from the Dominican Republic and the Nicaraguan Island of Ometepe. It's offered in boxes of 25 except for the crystals, available in boxes of 8. Handmade in Santiago, Dominican Republic.
